The General Education Requirements for the Fire and Safety Engineering Technology Program included the standard Eastern Kentucky University General Education program requirements. An exception to that program was granted for course categories 14, 15, and 16, as the supporting course requirements include two Chemistry Laboratory Science classes.

The following sample of general education is intended to assist students in determining basic requirements. Sample and suggested general education requirements are as follows:
- Area I: Symbolics of Information, 9-12 hours
- Required, English Composition 6 credit hours Recommended, 6 credit hours from: Public Speaking/Speech, Computer Science, Mathematics, Foreign Language
- Area II: Humanities, 9-12 hours
- Required: Literature 6 credit hours and Art or Music Appreciation (or similar) 3 credit hour
- Area III: Social Science, 9-12 hours
- Select 9 hours from Political Science Anthropology Sociology U.S. History Western Civilization
- Area IV: Natural Science, 3 hours
- Required: Biological Laboratory Science
- Area V: Fitness and Wellness, 3 hours

NOTE: All FSE Majors, except those in the Fire, Arson and Explosion Investigation Option should complete MAT-107 or a College Algebra course in order to enroll in FSE-360 Hydraulics.
